Wedding rehearsal

The rehearsal is most often held the day before the wedding, but may be held at any other time for the convenience of the wedding party. It should be held at the site of the wedding if at all possible. It is very important that all participants be present unless being present presents a hardship. The parents of the groom should be invited to the rehearsal, but their attendance is not mandatory unless they are in the wedding party. Many times the groom's parents will be making last minute preparations for the rehearsal party, and elect not to attend the rehearsal. The director, along with the wedding officiant, is in charge. The bride may or may not participate; often a "stand-in" is used with the bride observing...this should be the bride's choice.

Special tasks such as unrolling the aisle runner, lighting candles, escorting mothers, etc. will be assigned at this time. Each usher should be able to give directions to the reception site from the church.

The rehearsal is traditionally followed by a party given by the groom's family. This may be anything from a formal dinner at an exclusive restaurant to a backyard barbecue. If the groom's family is unable to host the party, others may volunteer or even the bride's family may be the host.

The guest list for the rehearsal party includes the bride and groom, parents of the bride and groom, all members of the wedding party, musicians, officiant, and director, along with dates or spouses of each. If at all possible, out of town guests should be included as they are alone in an unfamiliar city...at the very least out of town relatives.

If having a large number of people at a rehearsal party puts a strain on the budget, then simplify the arrangements. The fellowship is far more important than the food served or the location of the party.
