Bridesmaids' attire

It is not necessary for the bridesmaid's dresses to be the same style and/or fabric as the bride's. The dresses should complement each other...a very straight, sophisticated wedding dress should not be flanked by frilly dresses with hoopskirt...but if the wedding dress has a bow it is not imperative that the bridesmaids have bows. Some feel the wedding dress should be totally different and special for the bride, but if the bride wants similar styles, it is certainly her choice.

Ages, weight, and financial situation are all to be considered in selecting dresses for the bridesmaids. The bride should choose the color and style after considering the above factors. Asking bridesmaids for help in choosing may result in a different choice form each person, thereby resulting not only in more confusion, but in hurting the feelings of the ones from whom you do not take advice. The color of the bridesmaid's dresses should be a color the bride looks terrific in. As this is her day, she will be totally surrounded by that color, and all of the girls will not be happy anyway. Consider overall size of each bridesmaid when choosing a style of dress - large busted girls are usually uncomfortable in strapless dresses and have difficulty finding appropriate undergarments.

Choosing a dress which can be worn with rack shoes will cut costs when needed. Shoes dyed to match may look great, but put a strain on the budget, and limit wearing. It is also acceptable for bridesmaids to purchase dresses in a specific color, but not necessarily matching in style for an informal wedding.

Allow plenty of time to special order or have dresses custom made. The dresses should be completed (final fitting) at least two weeks in advance of the wedding. It is also important that both you and the person responsible for making/ordering the dresses have descriptions of the dresses, color, fabrics, etc. in order to save confusion and arguments later.

Headpieces and/or gloves may be worn by the bridesmaids, but not doing so will cut costs. This is the bride's choice.
