Additional paper items

Programs, napkins, and matchbooks make nice keepsakes, but are certainly not necessary if you are attempting to cut costs. All these items may be ordered from your printer, or specialty shops.

Thank you notes should be folded cards with the name or monogram imprinted on the outside or a folded piece of stationery. A thank you note should include reference to the gift (except when money is sent). You can make reference as to how you plan to use the money received. It is common for the groom to assist the bride in writing thank you notes and in each case the other person's name should be mentioned.

Announcements are not mailed to anyone receiving an invitation to the wedding. An announcement does not require a gift, and is usually sent to people not able to attend the wedding because of distance, other reasons, business associates, etc. The announcement is usually sent the day of or the day after the wedding ceremony. The date of the ceremony is included, but not the time or place of the ceremony. Announcements are made in the name of the person sponsoring the wedding.

Example:

Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas Doe
have the honour of announcing
the marriage of their daughter
Susan Leigh
and Robert Ray Jones
on
Saturday, the second of May
Houston, Texas
